External training courses


The Poultry Health Course takes place at Compton Laboratory in February-March, and lasts for two weeks (nine days of lectures and demonstrations).

Pirbright Laboratory hosts four courses, in Spring, two dedicated to the diagnosis of: foot-and-mouth disease; peste des petits ruminants; bluetongue; capripox, one to Entomological techniques and one to Biorisk management.

Internal training


The training of scientists, laboratory and animal technicians, and staff throughout the Institute e.g. in Estates & Facilities, Farm, Finance, Human Resources, is a major part of the remit of the Institute, providing skilled personnel not only for the Institute but also for the country as a whole, and for overseas. All staff are offered training to help them to realise their potential.

Research students
